MAJOR MEETING - Joint meeting with ASIS Akron-Canton
Topic and Speaker:  hosted jointly by Cleveland and Akron-Canton

Are Our Nation’s Highways, Transportation Systems, and Infrastructures Really Safe from a Terrorist Incident?

Speaker:  Bill Arrington, TSA General Manager:
Office of Highway and Motor Carrier Security

Bill Arrington will discuss the level of security for our nation’s commercial motor vehicles. This includes trucks and motor coaches, school bus security, critical infrastructure (bridges and tunnels), and our entire security protocols for our nation’s transportation systems. That consists of more than four million miles of highway!

Come and find out if we are secure and, if so, how secure? Please join our combined chapters as we are very pleased to bring this interesting and informative national speaker to our special joint ASIS event!

Speaker Bio: William H. “Bill” Arrington

Bill was sworn in as a Maryland State Trooper in September, 1974, and enjoyed a very noteworthy and remarkable career for twenty-eight (28) years. Retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Bill’s last assignment was Deputy Superintendent, Chief of the Field Operations Bureau.

In October, 2002, Bill answered the call to serve when the Transportation Security Administration was created shortly after the 9/11 attack under the United States Department of Transportation. With a primary focus on aviation security, for obvious reasons, Bill served as one of the first Directors of Aviation Operations with the responsibility for overseeing security at all commercial airports in the eastern half of the United States.

At the present time and for the last three and one half years, Bill has served as the General Manager for the Office of Highway and Motor Carrier Security under TSA’s Transportation Sector Network Management Directory. Bill’s experience and expertise are reflective of his ability to lead and direct in the nation’s critical transportation security arena.

Social Networks:  Policies, Procedures, and Pitfalls!

Speaker:  Tim Dimoff, C.P.P.
President & CEO, SACS Consulting & Investigative Services, Inc.
& Chair, ASIS Akron-Canton

The explosive growth of online social networks has altered the way people communicate, share ideas, and disseminate information, but with it comes certain risks. The lines between professional and private lives continue to blur, and while these communications tools create great opportunities, they also create ethical dilemmas and challenges for businesses. What is being said, how it is said, who is saying it and where it is being said can have a very profound affect on a business in many ways. With Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, blogging, and other forms of social media communication continuing to grow, what can a company do to protect itself? Should employees be allowed to use these tools while at work? Should a company encourage employees to use these tools for company business? What are the real risks and why is it important? Every company needs to examine the risks this brings to their business and what they can do to protect their company, their employees and their customers. This presentation covers the fundamental elements needed to establish good decision making, policies and protocols to protect the business and mitigate the risks.

Security ROI:  How To Do More With Less
 & Increase Security Value!

Speaker:  Dana M. Little
Security Professional, 30 Years Experience,
Adjunct Professor of Business, Walsh University

formerly, Director, Business Intelligence

Diebold Security Division
Frost & Sullivan Global Security Systems Integrator of the Year: 2008 and 2009!

Today's security professionals face a more daunting task than ever before. While the risks to organizations of all types and sizes multiply, often threatening the very sustainability of the enterprise, security budgets are shrinking. Simply, security managers are being asked to do more with less. This presentation explores effective strategies for simultaneously enhancing protection while reducing associated costs. Many of these ideas can harden defenses while increasing revenue and/or reducing outlay. The audience is encouraged to leverage these strategies to take a fresh look at their operations focusing on potential improvements that will also benefit their organizations' business performance.

Dana M. Little is a 30 year security industry veteran. Following completion of his Electronic Technology Bachelors Degree at the University of Akron, Dana joined Diebold as a project manager in their security division. Two years later, he cofounded an electronic security company, TSA, that he co-owned and operated for six years. Dana sold TSA to Westec Security where he excelled in sales and management positions for five years. In 1991 he joined Diebold as a sales support specialist. During a 19 year career there, he held numerous management positions and rose to the position of Director, business intelligence. For his accomplishments, he received the Chairman's Award of Excellence. Dana holds a masters degree in management and is an adjunct professor of business at Walsh University in Canton where he teaches quantitative analysis. He's very active in ASIS activities and is a board member of the ASIS CAK chapter. Dana is also a member of the advisory board for the criminal justice college at the University of Akron. He's well repected for his knowledge of the security industry and related trends, developments and new technologies. Dana resides in Akron with his wife and three children.

“Cyber Espionage Concerns”

Speaker:  Special Agent Ryan MacFarlane
FBI Cleveland Office

Cyber security? Cyber espionage? Becoming more and more dependent upon the internet and the world wide web to successfully carry out their missions, governments, corporations, institutions, and others are targets for major thefts. Individuals and organized groups are working to steal the intellectual property and technology from them in order to further their own economic agendas. Universities, medical organizations, private companies, and others are also targeted. Some perpetrators may be sponsored by foreign governments - not limited to just third world or developing countries - while others may be linked to organized crime or operate as freelancers.

Join us for an engaging, illuminating presentation on the cyber side of economic espionage by FBI Special Agent Ryan MacFarlane. An excellent meeting to bring a guest.

FBI Special Agent MacFarlane, Cleveland Office, has spent the last six years investigating numerous criminal intrusions.  With over 8 years of Internet security experience, previous work experience includes positions at IBM, i2 Technologies, Georgia Tech, and as a co-founder of an Internet security start-up in 2004.
